Muskego Meeting Recap: Yes, There Was Other Business Conducted Outside of the Budget

Common Council did find agreement on sewer rates, refinancing and other agenda items.

So, under the category of 'what didn't we cover yet' for the Tuesday night Common Council meeting at City Hall, here's a recap of other resolutions that were passed with unanimous approval.

  • $2.74 million in were approved for issuance and sale.  This was basically a refinancing move that will save the city $338,000 over 9 years.
  • 2012 Sewer utility budget rates were approved, remaining unchanged
  • Krisann Durnford was approved as an appointment to the Library Board as a citizen member
  • Jill's Cleaners was approved for $3,000 in grant money from the Janesville Road building and grant program.  The council agreed that these improvements were significant, including asphalt work to the parking lot, tuckpointing and restuccoing the facade. However, they felt more scrutiny in the coming year will need to be paid to requests, as they felt the use of dollars for basic maintenance was not the spirit of the program, including exterior plantings, basic painting and the like.
  • Special quarterly charges for garbage and refuse disposal and recycling
  • Approval of Graef as the design engineer for the
  • Approval that will allow the city to apply for an exemption from the DNR to allow the Big Muskego Lake Dam to remain closed.  Generally a 'low flow' of water is required to allow for habitat downstream, but Tom Zagar had explained that given the low lake levels and the health of the waterway between Wind Lake and Big Muskego, the DNR would grant the exemption.
  • Approval of a settlement between and the city regarding an assessment dispute for the property.  Council members had convened in closed session to discuss terms with the retailer, and a resolution was not available at the end of the evening.
