Merry Christmas, Muskego!
Whether you know it or not, you've all given me gifts, and I am forever grateful.

As I look forward to a long holiday weekend - crossing my fingers that no major local breaking stories command attention - I can't help but be overwhelmed with gratitude for the humbling gift of being the editor of Muskego Patch.
Growing up in this city since I was 3, I never really left, despite a seven-year hiatus (my folks still reside in the home they purchased in 1968 near Little Muskego Lake). So, like a friend of mine recently noted, I 'have roots here.'

I have known this city through young eyes, and although I moved back in 1998, I never realized how much more there is to learn about it. So many of you over the year have revealed your frustration and passion, your selflessness and creativity that it becomes a new city every day for me.
I have been entrusted with telling your stories: happy, sad or inspiring, and I hope I have continued to earn that trust as the year comes to a close. I have enjoyed the rare position of 'matchmaker' - bringing those with questions or needs together with those with the solutions. I can't tell you how rewarding that has been, and I thank you for the opportunity.

My wish, my gift, for you all is to discover the unexpected gifts in each other. As neighbors, it's amazing what we don't know about each other, but learning about them is what truly strengthens a community.
I look forward to 2013, not just because I know Janesville Road will be completed, but because of the beginnings that will likely occur as a result, as well as other unexpected gifts. I look forward to opening those gifts with you.
Merry Christmas to you all, and the greatest of blessings in the New Year.Â
