Mill Valley Redevelopment Will Go to Public Hearing
There are no immediate plans for development, but a belief that the area will see commercial and retail demand has the city looking to get public comment now.
There will be a public hearing on June 19 at the Community Development Authority's next meeting to gather input on the details of the Mill Valley Redevelopment District. The area lies on Muskego's northwestern corner, just south of I-43 and along the New Berlin border on Racine Avenue.
The area has not officially been deemed a redevelopment district, but planners have noted that New Berlin's plans to develop the quarry just across Racine Avenue make this a good time to finalize the details. A redevelopment district is allowable by state law so that cities and counties can provide incentives for property owners and developers to clean up blighted or unused parts of the community.
While plans aren't immediate, City Planner Jeff Muenkel told the CDA that it was a certainty that the area will be a target for development.

"This is a gateway to the city that may not develop immediately, but will definitely see development in the next several years," he said. "New Berlin has been looking to develop the quarry as a business park, but has had difficulty in getting sewer and water there because of the interstate. Muskego has offered to work something out with them, but so far they have declined and are still looking to work within their city."
Rob Glazier, CDA Chairman, agreed that it was a good time for the city to get its plan in place. "This is the most unique, developable land in the city, and it's a great spot to create a redevelopment district."
