Mill Valley Welcomes New Principal

Robin Schrot makes the trek from Germantown to familiar surroundings and looks forward to a great year

The new head of Mill Valley Elementary School may seem to be coming from way out of town, but says Muskego is a very familiar place.

Robin Schrot is a Germantown resident and mom of two school-aged children who said the trip into work isn't all that bad, and her new surroundings in the principal's office aren't really all that new.

"I had spent some time at the (Muskego) district's Educational Services Center as I was working toward my license as a director of instruction, so I got to see how things worked here," she said.

Schrot hails from the Elmbrook School District and had been a teacher at Burleigh Elementary. She taught 2nd grade for 12 years, and was most recently a Student Support Teacher before she was hired on at Muskego-Norway.

"I was in effect an assistant principal, so yes I was the person who saw kids when they were naughty, but I was also the person who worked on bullying education," she explained.

Schrot said she liked the district's process of getting things done, citing the 'plan-do-study-act' procedure to gauge progress and programs in the classroom.

"It's a great continuum of looking at programs and it was nice to see it in practice and to gain some exposure to the district," she said.

Schrot said her philosophy is to "look at the whole child, all aspects of their life, in relation to their education. It helps us set priorities to determine what's best for our kids."

While just getting started, Schrot said she's not noted any apparent challenges that would require immediate action, but if they arise she's confident the staff she's surrounded by will help overcome them.

"I haven't been here very long, but I'm so thankful for how welcoming and supportive people have been. I look forward to getting started on the year."
