Muskego Alderman Opts Out of County Race to Keep An Eye On Council
Kert Harenda cites spending as reason to stay focused as a councilman, and lends support for District 3 and 5 incumbents as well as challengers to District 1.

While Kert Harenda, alderman for District 2, had filed papers to be a candidate for the county supervisory district 23, he decided to instead opt out of the race to focus on what he felt was the main issue on the common council.
"My time and effort is better focused this election season making sure Muskego has the right people on the Common Council so the city takes the correct path for the future; the path of fiscal responsibility, openness and transparency - the path of real strength and prosperity for everyone in Muskego," Harenda said in an email to Patch.
"Right now there are more important things in the city going on. Like, is the Common Council going to continue down the path of spend, spend, spend to saddle our children and grandchildren with insurmountable debt? Is the Common Council going to continue implementing policies that hamper transparency and openness? Is the Common Council going to continue to over tax the people of Muskego and over borrow to create slush funds for pet projects and so the Common Council doesn't have to ask permission from the taxpayers to spend their money? Is the Common Council ever going to actually finish a project they start before moving on to the next one?" he asked.

Harenda felt the Common Council was at a crossroads, and said he wanted to do away "with the old way of doing things; cronyism, wasteful spending, taxing and excessive borrowing," to instead "move forward and start practicing real fiscal responsibility, openness and transparency to truly make Muskego a stronger community for the future."
Harenda's term in his district expires in 2013, and redistricting would require him to give up the seat then, as he now lives in district 3. However, he said he was throwing his support for current District 3 Alderman Neil Borgman, who is running against Larry Lefebvre.

If voting patterns on council resolutions are any indication, it was also not a surprise that Harenda also gave his support to "Dan Soltysiak and new alderman candidates for District 1."
