Muskego Business Has a Full Plate

My Table Gallery succeeds in a quiet corner of the city

Despite a location that many residents of Muskego may not pass through often, Jessie Voss and her nearly-one-year-old business, , has enjoyed a successful first year at its location near Highway 45 and 36.

"I've technically been in business for 12 years, but opened the gallery officially on February 11, 2011, and we've been very, very blessed with the response," Voss said. Her notoriety increased as she was featured on the Rachel Ray show about 2 years ago.

Recently awarded second place in the WISN A-list for best gift shops, Voss said she was thrilled with the result, especially considering competition like George Watts. In part, her fans have come from the contacts she's made at art shows, through her website and from "word of mouth by people who just like to see a small business succeed."

The shop features hand-thrown pottery pieces by Voss, as well as other handmade art pieces in different media from about 20 local artists, and is now introducing a line of chalk paints by Annie Sloan. They are the only shop in Wisconsin to offer the historically accurate palate of 28 colors for customers wishing to restore or revive old pieces of their own.

Voss and fellow artist Lynita Wolf have been using the paint in their art and refinished furniture for the past year and are excited to bring this product to Wisconsin. Sloan is a British author and one of the world's most respected experts in the field of decorative painting and a key figure in the painted furniture revolution.

The paint can be used on any surface and requires no priming and minimal advance surface preparation. It also contains low VOC’s, so Voss explained that it's environmentally friendly.

"The paints make the process of refurbishing so much shorter, so you can take that old chair from your aunt and redo it in a weekend, rather than over a period of weeks," Voss explained.

Workshops will be offered in the near future for customers who would like to learn more about the application.

If you'd like to check out the inventory in person, My Table is open Monday & Tuesday 10am-4pm; Friday 10am-5pm; Saturday 10am-2pm or by appointment. Paints are available in-store now, and will be available on line on February 1.
