Muskego Business News is A Mix of Good and Bad

Ludman machining reported to be moving to much larger complex in Milwaukee, while spotlight on business highlights a promising future for business development, especially off of Janesville Road.

The state of Muskego business was given a shot in the arm, while suffering a blow at the same time, as various publications reported a little good and bad news on that front in the past week.

, located in the Muskego Business Park, is leaving its current facilities to undergo a major expansion in Milwaukee, occupying an 81,000 square foot facility near 124th and Hampton Ave., according to the BizTimes.

City Planner Jeff Muenkel said the city was working with the machiner, but ultimately a large enough space that was already built was what led the company out of town.

"We had many contacts with Mr. Jim Lenahan (new owner) prior to their decision," he said. "They were looking to possibly stay at their current location (a 17,500 square foot building on a three acres) and expand but that apparently proved too costly, too untimely, and not leave enough space for their needs."

"We also had them talking to our Moorland developers and they were on the verge of possibly building new there however I believe it again came down to (needing) the space immediately. Mr. Lenahan did tell us that he was looking in Milwaukee though for an existing larger box during this whole process as well."

Muenkel also said the city made attempts to offer financing "for whatever his needs may be in the form of grants, loans, and our ability to use TIF monies to encourage them to stay as well."

On the brighter side, Muskego business caught the spotlight in The Business Journal, which cited developers who called the Moorland corridor ripe for "a good amount of commercial (development) on both sides of Moorland east and west."

Specifically, the Moorland Commerce Center, featuring a new and the Walmart Supercenter, was deemed a 'hot spot' especially given its proximity to I-43, and the fact that New Berlin is "out of land."

The article went on to cite recent new developments that will make 2012 a busy year for Muskego, including a new on the city's south side, the 24,000 square foot medical facility to be built next to Kohl's, and expansions by and InPro Corp.
