Muskego Curves Flexes Its Heart Muscle, Again

'Quiet' acts of kindness and outreach from the workout facility have made a difference to many in and around Muskego

Gail Levin is the force of nature behind the facility, and for the past 11 years, she's quietly helped to inspire and organize members in donating food and gifts to our communities.

"We are not a religious organization, but nonetheless spiritual and giving in nature," Levin said. "Around Thanksgiving time each year, the Curvettes begin asking, 'Will you have ornaments with names and ages on the giving tree again this year?'  And if I don’t react fast enough, they are quick to follow up with, 'When will you have the ornaments . . .?'"

Levin and her 'Curvettes' gathered gifts for Waukesha homeless shelter residents. This year, they supplied about 20 beautifully wrapped gifts to the Siena House, after they were given a list of ages and the sex of residents including boys and girls, nine women and one man.

"Because we were anticipating closer to 40 recipients, we had leftover gifts," Levin explained. "A quick call to Kris Huss of the and the gifts were picked up and gone, no doubt for families who frequent our pantry."

A letter from the shelter described the gratitude and joy that these expressions of caring bring.

"...it was so much fun... Curves supplied the gifts for the kids and they were perfect- each child thrilled- no greed in sight just appreciation- amazing- well done Curvettes. The singing and food and the adults so glad to be together- we even got a chance to see some reconcilation between some guests- Yes a very special night- God sure fills the desires of your heart."

"My heart is warmed by the continued generosity of the Curvettes," she added.  "We have a pantry barrel right outside our door.  We collect discarded t-shirts that are transformed into diapers for third-world countries.  We send cards to our ailing and grieving members.  The Muskego Curvettes are a very special group of women 'in deed!'"
