According to a release from Roundy's, the tour targets smaller, neighborhood pantries feeling the strain of the economy and increased demand.

In addition, the Foundation is looking to raise awareness about the needs of area food pantries and, ultimately, provide one food pantry with a surprise donation through a “Recipe Face-Off” contest.

Fans of the Roundy’s Foundation Facebook page are invited to submit a recipe using five pre-selected ingredients that are commonly found at a food pantry. A panel of judges will then nominate the three top recipe submissions to move on to the final voting round. The final decision will be left up to the fans. The top three recipes will be posted on Roundy’s Foundation Facebook page where participants vote for the winner by “Liking” their favorite recipe. A food donation will be placed by Roundy’s Foundation to a food pantry of the winner’s choice.

“We’re trying to bring attention to the issue of hunger in our communities, while giving our customers an easy way to give back,” said Roundy’s Chairman and CEO Bob Mariano. “The Recipe Face-Off brings a fun and interactive online aspect to the tour that will engage and educate followers.”
