Racine County sheriff’s deputies were called at 3:04 a.m. Monday for a report of a burglary in progress. The manager heard someone trying to break into the gas station and McDonald’s rear door and called police.

After a search by deputies didn’t find the man at the businesses, a delivery driver told them he spotted a man without shoes run into the Baymont Hotel across the street, according to the sheriff’s report.

Mayer was found standing in the front lobby and said he was visiting a friend, but the hotel manager said Mayer had just entered and wasn’t visiting anyone there, according to the reports.

He was allegedly slurring his words and smelled heavily of intoxicants — later said he had just come from a friend’s house in Waterford, and then said he was dropped off by friends so he could walk to another friend’s home.

Mayer became angry when deputies arrested him and told a deputy he was going to sue that him, the reports stated.

Surveillance videos also allegedly caught Mayer throwing a brick against the BP gas station window and trying to jar open two others at McDonald’s. Damage also included the removal of screws from a latch on a freezer door at McDonald’s back entrance.

Bond was set at $400 cash Tuesday. A $1,000 signature bond has also been set for him during his initial appearance. Mayer’s preliminary hearing is July 12.
