Muskego Man Finishes Fat Tire Bike Race

Considered the 'Boston Marathon of Bike Races,' Muskego resident Steven Maierle finishes the grueling 40-mile course in 4 hours, 12 minutes

The Chequamagon Fat Tire festival was held last weekend, and a Muskego man was among the finishers of the 40-mile off road course.

Steven Maierle, 50, completed the race in 4:12:16, placing 1400 in a field of near 1,800 bikers.

According to race's website, "the race is a 40 mile, mass start, point-to-point off-road bicycle event whic travels from downtown Hayward, WI, over the American Birkebeiner Ski Trail, forest roads, snowmobile trails and other wooded lanes to the finish line at Telemark Resort in Cable, WI."

Each year 1,850 participants are selected in a random lottery to take part in the fat tire marathon, which has been held since 1983.
