Muskego-Norway Announces 2013 Compass Award Winners

Muskego-Norway School District recognizes three instructors for their ability to educate and innovate

Muskego-Norway School Board members recognized three teachers Monday night for exemplifying the district's mission to foster learning, growth and success for every student.

The annual Compass Award winners included:

Allyce Jung - A math teacher at Muskego High School, Jung has been a teacher there for three years, as well as being a coach for multiple sports and a student council advisor. Superintendent Kelly Thompson cited Jung's new and innovative approaches to teaching math, including the use of Smart notebooks, iPads, and other technology for fostering her student's success.Β

Wendy Lyon - A 16-year veteran at Mill Valley Elementary School, Lyon teaches 3rd grade. She was recognized for finding "instructional strategies that work and creates a classroom community of trust, respect and support, and being a strong collaborator and is very supportive in helping new staff during their first year at Mill Valley."

Lyon also serves on the school’s Unity Committee, Eye on the Goal Team and is on the cutting edge of digital learning, according to Thompson.Β

Lori Rooney - nominated by a student as well as two colleagues, Rooney is a 7th and 8th grade teacher at Lake Denoon Middle School, and has been teaching there for nine years. Thompson said Rooneyis interested in continuous improvement, not only for herself, but for LDMS and the district, evidenced by her own involvement on school committees.

Rooney has served on the Eyes On The Goal Team, Middle Level Program Review Team, 5-12 Content Literacy Team, and District Gifted and Talented Committee. She has also been a PTO teacher representative, LDMS Odyssey of Mind Coordinator and she initiated summer trips for 8th grade students to New York City and Washington DC.
