Muskego-Norway School Receives AP Honors

Muskego-Norway School District administrators have always pointed to the increase in participation by students in advanced placement (AP) courses as a measure of achievement, and a national college standards organization has noticed.

The district was placed on the 3rd Annual AP District Honor Roll by the College Board. The designation reflects the district's efforts in increasing participation and courses in the AP program, while keeping the scores at 3 or higher (the highest score being 5).

According to a release from the district, MNSD students participating in AP classes went from 264 to 325 since 2010, and of those 78 percent scored a 3 or higher. Muskego was one of 26 districts in the state to receive the honor, and one of 539 across the country.

Inclusion on the 3rd Annual AP District Honor Roll is based on the examination of three years of AP data, from 2010 to 2012 for the following criteria:

• An increase in participation and access to AP by at least four percent in large districts, six percent in medium districts and 11 percent in small districts.
• Minority participation could not drop by more than five percent over that time
• Improvement in performance levels, unless the district already has 70 percent of AP students scoring a 3 or higher on the exam

"We are thankful for the dedicated efforts of our educators who have encouraged more students to participate in taking challenging, college-level courses designed to prepare students for the rigorous experiences they will encounter in college," superintendent Kelly Thompson said in a release from the district. "We believe that many more students in our school community are ready to take AP courses. It is our challenge to seek them out and encourage their participation."
