Muskego Police to Take Part in St. Pattys Patrols

Irish or not, St. Patrick's Day is not a free pass to drink and drive, say police

Drivers on Muskego streets will notice an increase in police patrols this year as St. Patrick's Day approaches.  Beginning Monday, March 5 to March 21, Muskego will be adding extra patrols for traffic safety enforcement, according to a release from the department.

"These patrols were made possible by a grant from the state of Wisconsin and will be done in conjunction with the Big Bend Police Dept," the release states.  "In 2009 there were 103 fatal crashes nationwide on St. Patrick’s Day.  Of those, 37 percent involved at least one driver over the legal blood alcohol level of .08...  The Muskego Police Department is dedicated to keeping the roads safe for everyone and therefore will not show any tolerance for those who choose to drive while impaired by alcohol or other drugs."

"Everybody may be Irish on St. Patrick’s Day, but nobody should drive drunk after celebrating Ireland’s patron saint," it cautioned.

The release went on to offer resources to avoid having to drive if you're planning on enjoying a little green beer. The Tavern League of Wisconsin will offer taxis to customers who may have had too much to drink.  In addition, Miller Coors offers a free ride program in the Waukesha and Milwaukee area.

Those of you with smart phones can be really smart by using a new app from  Miller Coors, which offers the Miller Lite Taxi finder, which can be found by going to www.MLTaxifinder.com to get one-touch dialing for a nearby cab.
