Muskego Polls Maintain A Brisk Pace With 'Soft' Voter ID Implements
School referendum draws a good response despite the weather, and pollworkers begin to incorporate procedures before voter ID goes live in 2012.
Before noon, I was voter #184 at the 7th district polling facility in the Tess Corners Fire Station off of Highway 36. Prior to entering, I was told to get my ID ready, should I have one with me.
I did, and if I didn't I would not have been required to present one. Poll workers, however, were required to ask, as part of a 'soft implementation' of the Voter ID law that will take effect in 2012.
Every voter was also required to sign their names in the polling books, which was mandatory on Tuesday, and poll workers said no one had any complaints about the new steps.

"I had more than a few people say 'it's about time' when we asked to see their ID," said Janice Theel, who was working at .
Some voters, like one in my line, remarked that they never carry their ID with them, which makes this exercise a good reminder for the next time they visit the polls in 2012.

The school referendum was the only item on the ballot, making voting a quick process and perhaps a perfect opportunity to test out the new procedures that will take effect 'for good' with the February or spring election in 2012.
