Muskego Post-Flooding 'Punch List' Nearing Completion
Public Works reviews status of projects aimed at alleviating flooding potential after heavy July 2010 rains require a deeper look into capacities throughout city.

City Engineer Dave Simpson outlined a few of the projects that have comprised a six-page list of projects that would address flooding. The list was compiled and work was done after rains in excess of five inches left much of southeastern Wisconsin struggling to bail out.
Included in the projects:
- McShane lift station installation of an emergency bypass pump 100% complete
- Private property infiltration and inflow surveys were done to assist homeowners, and according to Simpson about 70 homeowners are participating. These homeowners could also be eligible for grant funds to remedy backups'
- Storm drainage upgrades to the Cornell/Catalina Drive area are expected to be complete by the fall of 2012
- Additional portable pumps were purchased for approximately $66,000
- An existing pipe at the intersection of Martin and Janesville will be closed and a larger one installed and rerouted to alleviate flooding in that area
- Ditch reconstruction at Muskego and East Drives is about 90 percent complete; Simpson said the estimated cost of $180,000 may be greatly reduced as the work could come in house
- A Ryan Road sanitary sewer relay was also defective, and has been repaired.
A resident raised a question on work that was promised in the area of Lake Drive and Redman, but had not been touched. Simpson indicated that he thought the work was already done, but would look into it again.
