Muskego School Referendum Defeated, But Schools Still Need Attention

Superintendent Dr. Joe Schroeder disappointed at result, but respects vote; board will go back to the drawing board to address needs

In the wake of yet another thumbs down on a school referendum that would have a new school built on Muskego's east side, and have others closed or renovated, School Superintendent Dr. Joe Schroeder was disappointed, but respected the result.

"We've been working closely with the community for the better part of four years now, and I'm obviously disappointed at the outcome," Schroeder said Tuesday night.  "However, I respect and accept the decision of the voters in the community."

In the meantime, however, Schroeder was mindful that the existing buildings that need repairs will need to be a focus as the board moves forward.

"We recognize that the needs don't go away, and the board will have to address those needs in a way that the community will support," he said.

Schroeder indicated that the next school board meeting on Nov. 21 will begin to discuss where the district will go from here.
