Muskego Veterans Put Their Memorabilia and Their Hearts on Display

History reminds us all never to forget, and veterans' reach out to the community this month in more ways than one

The Muskego VFW and local veteran Jeff 'Doc' Dentice contacted us recently with news that presents an opportunity to meet as well as support veterans in December.

Dennis Duran of the VFW Post 8171 in Muskego told us that they are putting together a first-ever a display of military items. The display will cover World Wars 1 and 2, Korea and Viet Nam, and will include uniforms, photos, helmets, medals, equipment, captured items and items from the home front.

When we had the opportunity to interview VFW member Jim Brinks back in May, he mentioned his vast collection, and we're glad to hear that he will be sharing it with the community. These events are fantastic opportunities to literally touch history, and hear the stories of where they came from.

Sunday, Dec. 4, Badlander's Pub in Wind Lake (7922 S. Loomis Road) will feature a pancake breakfast from 9am to noon for $7.95, which includes 'all the trimmings.' You're also invited to stay for the Packer game afterward and take part in raffle drawings.  Money raised from this event will help fund another veteran's event, the Christmas Show at Zablocki VA Center.

This event is held just for the patients at the VA Center, but donations for gifts, personal items and the party (food platters, beverages) are greatly needed.

"I am blessed to have been able to keep this event going for the past 23 years for our men and women who have served their country proudly," Dentice told us.  "I start in August putting it all together, and hope like heck that right after Thanksgiving, donations really start picking up. This Vietnam Vet will always do what ever it takes to bring Christmas to our Veterans who cannot be home for the Holidays with their family. Its means alot to them and I cannot let them down."

Take a peek at the attached photos for more information on what is needed for the Christmas show, which takes place on Saturday, Dec. 10.
