Muskego Woman's Club Celebrates Their History As Well As Present Success

The Muskego Woman's Club was honored with a congressional proclamation Monday night, presented to the group by Rep. David Craig, who praised the group for serving the community's needs.

In addition, some of the group's pet projects were discussed, and if numbers don't lie, remain a favorite part of the community's events.  July's 'Safety City' program saw a near capacity attendence of 59 children, and 29 teen volunteers.  The program is sponsored along with the Muskego Police Department and teaches youngsters being safe in the house, on their bikes, and what to do in scary situations.

The recent 'Peppermint Craft Fair' also logged nearly 1,000 paid attendees at Bay Lane Middle School on Nov. 6. The fair features crafters, food and raffles and has been a staple for more than 20 years.

However, as charter member Armenta Kolkoski remarked, "things change, and that can be sad, but we need to recognize we need to change along with it."  She was referring to the group's decision to discontinue their efforts in publishing a Muskego phone directory.

The decision was clear for some members, as the amount of work, cost of printing and the increasing difficulty in selling advertising space in a medium that is rarely used didn't justify continuing the book in 2013. The group will now look to their own ability to thrive as it has for 50 years to make up for this fundraiser, which helps provide scholarships to area students every year.
