No Threats to Muskego Schools, but Plans for 2013 Beef Up Security

Less than a week after the tragic shooting of 20 kindergartners and six staff members at Sandy Hook Elementary, area school districts have begun to receive threats of their own, and all are being taken seriously.

Waukesha South and North principals said there are rumors on Facebook about "something bad happening" at the school. Oak Creek Superintendent Sara Burmeister said but the Oak Creek Police Department is taking it seriously and investigating.

Late Tuesday, Hamilton School District administrators received calls from parents who were hearing rumors from their children of a potential threat as well.

However, Muskego High School Principal Ryan Oertel said no such threats have been rumored at the high school.

"That being said, Muskego High School takes a serious and proactive approach to school safety; it is our top priority," he told Muskego Patch.

Oertel also said that the high school's administrative team, School Resource Officer (SRO), and school and district emergency response teams continue to revisit safety and security protocols and measures and refine accordingly.  

Jan. 2, 2013, for example will already feature changes that visitors will notice. A district-wide, consistent sign-in and identification procedure will be implemented, according to Oertel.

The last day of classes for 2012 is Friday, Dec. 21.
