Nutrition Re-Emphasized at Muskego Fitness Facility
Weight loss struggles aren't solved by working out more, and clients are being counseled more on nutrition.

Based on what we've been undergoing at 'boot camp,' the idea of sweat equity equaling weight loss is no longer the case. While cardio and conditioning help to build muscle, and burn calories at a higher rate, it's really about the weight you lift at the end of your fork that makes all the difference.
Most recently, Curves’ in Muskego has undergone a rebranding effort to step up their image of being a “30-minute fitness and weight loss center.”
According to owner Gail Levin, "This November the theme of our annual convention was the 'Reinvention Convention.' Curves has always married exercise and diet. But now, we are reinventing ourselves to become “a moderately priced weight-loss center with a gym.”

Levin said Curves went to great lengths to incorporate what they refer to as the "three-legged stool: exercise + diet + motivation." Owners and staff also were required to undergo an online training program with the Cleveland Clinic.
"We had to take an online class, complete with tests, on each one of those stool legs. Took me about 30 hours. I received a Cleveland Clinic Certification and am now a Curves Complete Coach," she explained.

"Over the 13 years that I’ve owned a Curves, I’ve seen sooooo many women who exercise like fiends that you would think should be stick thin. Unless they’ve been diagnosed with a medical problem, such as a thyroid condition, somehow someway they were not eating properly. Perhaps they were not eating enough, too many carbs, not enough protein, drinking their calories, etc. Curves’ clients nationwide understand that they have to exercise to maintain their lean muscle and that it’s muscle that burns fat at a resting heart rate," Levin said.
Ultimately the goal of facilities like Curves and Accel Fitness (the boot camp concept) is to keep participants from getting frustrated rather than getting results. For anyone who has weight loss as a goal, that translates to them sticking to a program and remaining as a client.
