Optimism, Hard Work Mark Progress for Wrestlers

Coaching the youngest team he's had in years, Sean Fortmann sees a good future on the mats for the Warriors

After having great success with  for two consecutive years, the wrestling program at Muskego High School is in a bit of a rebuilding phase, but for Coach Sean Fortmann, it's all good.

"This is an extremely young team, but it's also been a group of extremely hard workers," he said. "We've taken our lumps but these kids have a great attitude and know that it's all about progress."

Recently falling to Arrowhead and Fortmann, in his seventh year with Muskego, said the team has learned to focus on the positives that come from each match, and "not to measure progress in wins and losses. We as coaches want to continue to make it fun, not that we want them to be OK with losing, but not to let it get them down."

The wrestling program is 'well-fed' at MHS, with a youth club that develops younger wrestlers from K through 8th grade. Fortmann said that program has about 80 kids participating.

The team still has much of its season left, and still time to learn, grow, and develop for next year, said Fortmann. They will get their next opportunity on Thursday at home against Mukwonago.
