Second-time championships for Jordan Gruettner and Roland Dunlap and great outings by Justin Scherkenbach and Austin Quartullo cap off a successful weekend
Thanks to photojournalist Julie Swanson for sharing the events at the WIAA State wrestling tournament held this past weekend, Friday Feb. 24 and Saturday, Feb. 25.
Austin Quartullo posted earlier wins, falling to Tim Cho of Westosha Central in the fifth place round of competition. Joe Umlauf of Wauwatosa West defeated Justin Scherkenbach in the semi finals after he too posted wins in earlier rounds.
Roland Dunlap and Jordan Gruettner recaptured their respective state titles in Division 1 from last year. Gruettner won his final match by pinning Luke Belich of Mukwonago in 1 minute, 12 seconds. Gruettner pinned all four of his state opponents, and none of the matches went past the first period, according to a report in Muskego NOW.
