Public Safety Recap: Requests for Stop Signs Get Mixed Response
Public safety agrees that a stop sign is necessary on Princeton Drive but denies request for one on Cornell Drive and Belmont, saying there's no need.
The Public Safety Committee met Thursday night, and reviewed requests for stop signs in two different neighborhoods, but split their decision.
- Cornell Drive and Belmont Drive - the committee gave the request a thumbs down, as Police Chief Paul Geiszler said there has been no accident history at this intersection. Cornell bends where it meets Belmont, and there is already a stop sign on Belmont. The request was made to add one to Cornell Drive as well, but the committee felt it would create too short of a distance between signs for traffic, and absent any previous problems, said the measure was not necessary.
- Princeton Drive and Sandalwood Drive - these streets meet just behind the Walgreen's on Janesville, and the committee agreed that a sign should be placed on Princeton at the northeast corner of the intersection, as traffic coming down Sandalwood should have the right of way, especially as it travels from Janesville Road south.
In addition, the committee agreed to add more no parking signs at Bluhm Park, as complaints over cars parking in the grass were raised by area residents.
