Update: Road Closures Coming, Along With Woods Road Trail Construction

Pioneer Drive will close on Wednesday; Janesville Road will close this weekend for culvert installation, and changes along Woods Road herald trail construction.

There's no doubt: we're in the thick of construction season. Dave Simpson, Director of Public Works, offered this update Monday night during the Public Works Committee meeting:

Pioneer Drive: the often-used shortcut between Racine Avenue and Janesville Road will be closed to through traffic as water main installation extending from Horn Field north to Janesville will begin. Simpson said that they had expected to be done by the Community Festival, but now will suspend operations from Thursday, August 23 to Monday August 27 to accommodate traffic. Work is not expected to be complete until sometime in September.

Janesville Road: box culverts will be installed at Martin Road, prompting the weekend closure of Janesville. Work is scheduled from 7 p.m. Friday, June 22 to 7 a.m. Monday, June 25.  UPDATE: To keep the public informed, the project management team will be posting updates on the field-office phone message system with more exact work hours during the closure.  To access the message system, please call (414) 422-4751.  Additional information can be found at www.janesvilleroad.com.

If  you've traveled along Woods Road in hopes of avoiding Janesville construction, you've likely noticed the ground overturned in anticipation of the construction of the recreational trail along that route. A 1.8-mile stretch of paved trail will connect the trail at Quietwood Drive to Racine Avenue. Removal of trees has also begun along the route, and paving will likely start in July.

In addition, the Tess Corners construction bid was just awarded, so Simpson said they expect to start that project mid to late July.
