Road Construction Underscores Importance of "Click it or Ticket"

Muskego Police to mobilize for Click It or Ticketsafety belt enforcement from May 21 to June 3, and remind motorists that special speed zones will be focus of efforts.

The Muskego Police Department will be teaming up with the Big Bend Police Department in their enforcement of Wisconsin’s mandatory safety belt law during the annual Click It or Ticket mobilization from May 21 to June 3. Approximately 400 law enforcement agencies throughout the state are expected to participate in this year’s Click It or Ticket mobilization.

According to Lt. Andrew Kraus with the Muskego Police Department, "noteworthy is that we will be watching the construction zone on Janesville Rd. closely for enforcement of the 25 MPH speed limit as well as seatbelt use."

So far this year traffic deaths are up in Wisconsin as compared to this time last year. With this in mind officers will be paying close attention to violations of the safety belt law.  To save lives and prevent injuries, our officers will stop a vehicle and issue tickets whenever they see an unbuckled driver or passenger.  As we have indicated in past mobilizations, our goal is not to write more tickets, but to prevent needless injury and loss of life.

Wisconsin still lags behind other states when it comes to the use of safety belts.  As a result there were almost 85,000 convictions throughout the state for failing to wear a safety belt.

The best way to avoid the cost and delay of a traffic stop is to wear a safety belt every trip, every time.  Even more important, say police, it can protect you from serious injury or death.
