Sadie the Miracle Dog Making Progress

Back in summer, Animal Doctor of Muskego took the opportunity of Jammin' on Janesville to have the masses meet a very special canine. 

Dr. Jodie Gruenstern, veterinarian at the practice, blogged about Sadie, a mother dog from the hills of Kentucky, who was shot in the head and backside, leaving her paralyzed, but still alive. Gruenstern was asked to help by owner Joal Derse, who was turned away at other 'conventional' clinics.

"I have seen so many miracles with acupuncture, herbs and nutraceuticals, that I felt we had something special to offer to try to help Sadie. Our holistic veterinary complex has modalities that conventional practices can't offer," she wrote.

Recently Sadie worked a little magic on the airwaves, as Dobie Maxwell, a local comedian with a radio show on WLIP 1050 AM in Kenosha, had her on with Derse for an update. Maxwell met Derse a few months ago when he did a benefit comedy show at Acres of Hope and Aspirations.

"I thought there was a need for a feel good story, especially after the ugliness of the Connecticut school shootings," Maxwell explained in his blog on OnMilwaukee.com. "That’s been an absolute nightmare for the entire nation, and I wanted to avoid staying on such a negative path."

   This was exactly what the doctor ordered. Sadie was pure magic and made everyone feel great. She has a very tangible vibe that radiates from her at all times, and she was the undisputed star of the evening from the instant she got out of the car and limped up to the door of the radio station.

Derse and friend Chris told Maxwell that Sadie has been making miraculous and steady progress and is doing wonders as far as her recovery is concerned. She’s getting constant therapy and attention and she continues to improve by the day.

The dog's mobility is increasing, and she is now able to go up stairs with some assistance. Despite a recent setback with one of her back legs 'scraping' as she walks, both veterinarian and owner remain positive on her prognosis.
