Spring Brings Reminders From Muskego Police
A few tips and advisories from the Muskego Police Department. Some prompt the question, "If it's common sense, why isn't it more common?"

The following notes come from Lt. Dave Constantineau's desk at the Muskego Police Department. While some may be news to residents, other warnings may seem common sense, but the weekly neighborhood watch incident reports reveal otherwise.
Spruce up Your Yard....Including Addresses
As spring arrives, we all come out of hibernation to find out what damage Mother Nature has wrought upon our poor defenseless yards. It’s time to spruce up and clean up. While you are in the clean-up mode, we have a request from the Tess Corners Fire Department and our officers. Please take time to make sure your address numbers are properly posted on your home, and clearly visible from the street. In instances where seconds can count, a missing or obscured address can make the critical difference between life and death; not to mention, it’s against the law.
Muskego Municipal Ordinance 8.03 states that the address must be posted within 30 days of obtaining a building permit, or 30 days after taking up occupancy. The city will provide the letters and numbers to post (for a fee) and the address must be posted within 50 feet of the roadway and be clearly visible.

That being said, we have no desire to ticket anyone for not posting their address. We only want to make sure we can get there as fast as possible when you need help. If you have any questions, contact the Community Development Department at Muskego City Hall.
(Editor's note: given our less-than-snowy winter, and a drier than average spring, it's also a good idea to check first before you burn any leftover lawn debris as you are sprucing up.)

Keeping Your Toys to Yourself
Speaking of cleaning up, this is also the time of the year when the winter toys get put away and the summer toys come out. That means that snowmobiles, jet skis, boats, and ATVs sometimes end up sitting outside for a while as we jockey stuff around to make room for them. If you have to leave any of your “toys” out for a while, please make sure you take the proper precautions to secure them.
We had a lousy winter for sports, don’t let your summer be ruined by a momentary lapse. Make sure you are sitting on the deck of your boat, not some thief.
Making Sure the Gnomes Don't Roam
While you may not be a fan of windmills, tiki torches, lawn gnomes, or the person on the political sign, that doesn’t mean you can take them. At this time of year, all of those things, and more, wind up missing from people’s yards. If your neighbor likes Gnomes and windmills, that is their right, no matter how silly it may look to you. Let’s make sure we all respect each other’s rights. It sure will make the neighborhood block party more enjoyable.
