Spring Grilling Brings a Reminder of New Ordinance

Fire ordinance in city has been made more restictive to comply with state regulations, so take note before taking to the porch to fire up the Weber.

A unanimous vote during the Feb. 28 Muskego Common Council meeting approved the adoption of a new, more restrictive fire ordinance.

A minumum distance of 25 feet from buildings now matches that of the state's statutes, and cities cannot be any less lenient. So, if your firepit or grill is resting on your patio, it's time to bring out the tape measure.

Discussion on Feb. 28 took place because the proposed ordinance would also prevent some condominium residents from grilling on their balconies, as condominiums are defined as a form of multifamily housing. The bottom line for many is to either move their grills away from their homes, or make sure you have neighbors who are OK with it if you don't.
