Wind Lake Fair Returns

The long-running street fair spent 38 consecutive years along highway 36, and has been on a hiatus for the past 3 years, until a group decided to bring the festivities back to somewhat safer confines.

Since 1974 residents along Muskego's southern stretch off of highway 36 had gotten used to the flea market and fair in Wind Lake, which occurred two weeks after Labor Day weekend.

However, as the roadway got busier, the location wasn't as ideal in more recent years, and about three years ago the Wind Lake Street Fair was halted.

Since then, the interest in bringing back the late summer favorite has never been far from people's minds, so Mike Schmidlkofer and other fellow parishioners at St. Clare's in Wind Lake decided there was no time like the present. He and other volunteers have brought the fair, which has enough events to make it a festival, really, to the St. Clare grounds.

"We know we have a long ways to go in making our St. Clare Street Fair as big and successful as once was the Wind Lake Street Fair (it was a tradition), but we will give it a heck of a try," he said. "We are looking for it to be a truly community affair."

The Street Fair will run from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 16 (same weekend as in past years) with over 90 crafters and vendors participating. In addition to the craft show, there will be entertainment, including Zumba from Curves Circuit from 10 a.m. to noon. Music will be provided by Alyssia Dominguez and Jeremy Zima from 12:30 to 2:30 pm. Later, TW and 4 X 4 (formerly the Tumbleweeds) will be on stage from 3 to 6 p.m.
