NEW BERLIN, WI — The New Berlin Common Council is set to consider approving a construction bid for continuing the installation of pedestrian lights along National Avenue between Coffee Road and Glen Park Road.

The bids come as a continuation of a pedestrian lighting project that was launched in 2003, according to a Department of Community Development staff report. The National Avenue Pedestrian Lighting Plan was developed to compliment the sidepaths along National Avenue that were installed in 2001. Lights have been installed in the years since in segments, the report said.

The 2022 project outlines plans to install pedestrian lighting along the northern side of National Avenue, between Coffee Road and Glen Park Road.

The poles would match existing pedestrian lights, and include banner arms and festoon outlets when the city puts up holiday decorations, according to the city staff report. Construction would be expected to wrap up by October.

The city plans on purchasing the poles on its own to avoid price markups. The contractor would be paid to install the poles, the city staff report said.
