Replacement For Moorland Road Rail Crossing Begins Saturday
A 1.5-mile segment of Moorland Road will be closed during the construction. The crossing will be fully replaced after years of planning.
NEW BERLIN, WI — Construction and closures to replace the Union Pacific railroad crossing on Moorland Road begin on Saturday.
Union Pacific will replace the crossing, with 1.5 miles of roadway between Greenfield and Cleveland Avenues expected to close for the construction between Saturday and May 24. Drivers can expect detours and delays in the area, with the main detour being 108th Street, according to a news release from Waukesha County.
The county has been working to complete the crossing replacement since 2016, said Waukesha County Public Works Director Allison Bussler in the news release. The replacement will benefit thousands of drivers, Bussler said.

The move to replace the crossing began as early as 2016 when the county started reporting it to Union Pacific. In 2021, the Waukesha County Board of Supervisors adopted a resolution that sparked the replacement, and the Office of the Commissioner of Railroads decided in 2021 that Union Pacific must replace the crossing by June of 2022, according to the news release.
