NEW BERLIN, WI —Eight months after Vasa Fitness announced its intention to open its first gym in Wisconsin, the Utah-based national fitness center chain appears almost ready to open its doors in New Berlin.

Though Vasa has not announced a specific opening date, the business has been conducting media tours of its new 60,000-square-foot facility, which is located at the former Pick 'n Save at 13995 W. National Avenue.

According to its website, Vasa fitness — which will have 49 locations across the country when the New Berlin club opens — is a high-value, low price operator that is ranked as one of the top 20 largest health club operators in the country.

The club offers top-of-the-line equipment, exercise machines, free weights and a wide variety of fitness classes including Studio Red and Studio Cycle.

"VASA is all about building fitness communities where everyone is welcome," Troy Peterson, chief operating officer at Vasa, said last September when the business announced it would be coming to New Berlin. "After extensive research, we believe our brand values and culture align very well in (New Berlin). We can't wait to see the response once people experience all Vasa has to offer."

The club also touts the "incredible value proposition" that it offers its more than 400,000 members, who can join for as low as $9.99 a month.

Vasa actually offers different tiers of membership, including $21.99 per month and $39.99 per month, which it highlights on a dedicated New Berlin webpage. The page also features a video overview of the New Berlin club and links to sign up for a membership.

Haley McCoy, Vasa's national brand manager, told the Journal Sentinel that the club offers good value for the money, and that it can serve as a gathering place as well as a fitness center.

"There are other gyms around, but we felt like we could make a difference here, not only in our price point and making it an accessible location ... but we really want it to be a place where people can hang out and meet friends. This is a really great location," McCoy said.

Vasa representatives told the Journal Sentinel they hope to have 2,500 new members by the time the New Berlin club opens its doors.
