Man Gets Prison After Carjackings In Oak Creek And Milwaukee: DOJ
A man was sentenced to prison after federal prosecutors said he was involved in a string of carjackings in Milwaukee and Oak Creek.
MILWAUKEE, WI — A 20-year-old man was sentenced to prison in connection with a string of carjackings in 2020 across Milwaukee and Oak Creek, federal prosecutors announced Thursday.
Madison Tyler took part in six carjackings in September and December of that year, and in two cases he showed a firearm, according to the news release from United States Attorney Richard G. Frohling. In many of the cases, older adults were the target, ranging in age from 56 to 79, according to the news release and court documents.
The monthslong spree of carjackings came to an end after police spotted one of the stolen cars near Sherman Boulevard and Wright Street on Dec. 21, according to court documents. Officers followed the car in a chase lasting three miles that weaved through residential streets and sidewalks, ignored traffic signals, reached 95 mph and ended with a crash into another car, court documents said.

Inside the car was Tyler, who winked, smiled and told officers "Ya'll just arrested a kingpin," online court records said.
A federal grand jury indicted Tyler in November 2021 on six charges of taking a motor vehicle by force, violence and intimidation, and on two charges of brandishing a firearm in relation to a crime of violence, online court records showed.

The spree began in the 11900 block of Appleton Avenue in Milwaukee on Sept. 8, around 3 p.m., according to court documents. Two young men grabbed a woman's car keys and Tyler pushed the woman, court documents said. The woman sustained a scratch on her hand and was without a car after the encounter, according to court records.
Then on Sept. 13, the carjackings came to Oak Creek. Just before 11 a.m., two men tried to grab the car keys from a man who was pumping gas into an Audi at the 8151 South Howell Avenue Woodman's, court records said. This led to a struggle, which caused the Audi-owner to fall, but he held onto his keys and the would-be carjackers fled, court documents said.
About 10 minutes later the men fled to the Kohl's parking lot at 9035 South Howell Avenue in Oak Creek where they knocked a woman to the ground and took her Jeep, according to court documents. Paramedics treated the woman and police saw the cars weaving through traffic but did not pursue because of the potential danger, court records said.
Just hours after the encounters in Oak Creek on Sept. 13, the carjackings returned to Milwaukee. Three young men approached a 79-year-old man who was cleaning his sedan, again in the 11900 block of Appleton Avenue, according to online court records. The three young men approached and took the car, court records said.
In the days after the September carjackings, police arrested two people who were involved, court records said.
But then by December, two more carjackings struck, this time with guns, according to online records. A 62-year-old was carjacked with a gun when he was packing gear into his car in the alley in the 2900 block of Mabbett Avenue, court records said. Then on Dec. 19 in the 6600 block of 19th Street, a married couple was carjacked again with a gun as they were returning home, court records said.
Tyler was charged in connection with each carjacking and signed a plea agreement alongside prosecutors in February 2022.
After a term of nine years in prison, Tyler can expect three years of supervised release, according to federal prosecutors. He was also ordered to pay $1,605 in restitution, prosecutors said.
