Scammers Claim Affiliation With Oak Creek PD
An automated telephone call attempts to get surveillance equipment placed in residents' homes and vehicles to allegedly help stop thefts.

Several residents have reported receiving automated phone calls from someone claiming to be associated with the Oak Creek Police Department and asking to place surveillance equipment in the residents' homes or vehicles.
People should not take them up on it.
"Be advised that the Oak Creek Police Department would never call to solicit individuals," according to a department news release. "Residents should be wary of responding to calls of this nature."

According to the news release, the scammers claim they want to install surveillance "free of charge" so they can stop thefts and burglaries from occurring.
To avoid becoming a victim of telemarketing fraud, police say residents should not give financial information to unknown callers, be cautious of statements that contain the word "free" or "special offer" and not be pressured into making any immediate decisions.
