Car Crashes Into South Milwaukee House, Driver Injured: Police

Police said speed may have been a factor in the crash on Sunday, but nobody inside the house was injured.

SOUTH MILWAUKEE, WI — A car crashed into a South Milwaukee home on Sunday evening, leaving the driver injured, but nobody inside the house was hurt, according to police.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. at a home in the 1300 block of 17th Avenue. Resident Sara Jane was sleeping in the home's basement when it happened. After hearing what sounded like a "bomb went off," Jane ran up the stairs to find the car inside the dining room, she said in a statement to Patch.

Photos showed the aftermath of the incident. The car became lodged inside the home. Pieces of furniture and debris were scattered into the room. A doorway into an adjacent room was blocked by wood. The hole left by the car has since been boarded up, according to Jane.

Jane said her dad and bystanders helped the man in the car out. Police identified the driver as a 65-year-old man. He was injured and brought to a hospital. It took about an hour for authorites to pull the car out of the house, according to Jane.

Luckily, nobody inside the residence was injured, including the cats who live there, Jane said in a statement. But the crash left the home damaged, and those who live there waiting to hear back from insurance for a quote.

The house may be unsafe to live in, according to Jane. The whole room is damaged and there are cracks in the ceiling.
