What Do Oak Creek Graduates Do After High School?

State data shows number of graduates is up, but percent headed to college is down.

With school over for the year, Patch was curious… Exactly what do Oak Creek graduates do after graduation? The Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction has an incredible amount of searchable data on its website. We took a look, and here’s what we found:

The number of graduates has doubled since 1997, when 244 people graduated from Oak Creek High School, to the 502 who graduated in 2009-10 (the most recent data available).

About 43 percent of the 2010 graduating class was going on to a four-year college, the lowest percentage headed that way in the past 14 years (the only years for which data was available).

The percent of students going to vocational or technical schools from the 2010 class was fairly high, at 32 percent. There were only three years where the graduating class had a higher percentage of students choosing that option after graduation: 2003 (36 percent), 2004 (37 percent) and 2005 (34 percent).

That year also had one of the lowest percentage of students entering the military, with 2 percent of students choosing that option. The only year that was lower was 1997, when 1.6 percent of students went into the military.
