Car Thief Caught in Port, Faces Charges, Police Say

A 21-year-old Menasha man is facing charges after taking his grandfather's car for a road trip without his permission.
Jason Ebben was charged in Ozaukee County Circuit Court on Monday with operating a motor vehicle without owner's consent — repeater. He faces $10,000 in fines and 6 months in prison; he could face additional 4 years prison because of it being a repeat offense.
Ebben's grandfather called police on Thursday after Ebben left his Menasha home in his vehicle without permission, according to the criminal complaint. The vehicle was identified as a 2004 maroon Honda civic, and the license plate number was reported.

On Friday, Port Washington police noticed a car matching that description in Port. The officer confirmed that Ebben was the driver, the complaint said, and Ebben admitted to having taken the car without permission.
Ebben has several prior convictions, including interfering with fire fighting-alarm/fighters.Â
