Flood Watch: Saukville Officials on Alert in Case of Emergency

After last week's rains brought up to 5 inches of rain and flooding to some areas, another 2.5 to 3.5 inches is expected through Friday. Check Patch for updates on flooding and weather forecasts.

Saukville village officials are on alert for potential flooding, monitoring river levels with sandbags ready to go — if needed.

"We've just entered what's called the alert stage," Emergency Management Director Jack Morrison said. "(The weather service has) downsized the forecast since earlier in the week. We're just watching, we have no flooding right now."

The National Weather Service issued a Flood Watch that took effect noon Wednesday, and continues until 7 a.m. Friday, according to Patch's media partners at WISN 12 Weather.  A Flood Watch means there is a potential for flooding based on current forecasts. You should monitor later forecasts and be alert for possible flood warnings. Those living in areas prone to flooding should be prepared to take action should flooding develop.

Less than a half inch of rain accumulation is now forecast through Thursday. Little or no accumulation is expected overnight, with precipitation turning to snow late morning on Friday, according to the National Weather Service. Original forecasts had predicted as much as 2.5 to 3.5 inches of rain to already swollen streams and rivers.

Morrison said river levels reached 11.04 at midnight; the flood stage is 13.5. Last week, North Riverside Drive just north of the intersection with Green Bay Road was closed when the river level reached 13.65, and water poured onto the street. Saukville offers sandbag supplies should local residents need them; supplies can be picked up from the Department of Public Works location.
