Hit-and-Run Driver Cited in Wednesday Incident Involving Student

A 36-year-old Greenfield woman faces municipal citations in connection with the hit-and-run accident involving a student on Wednesday morning.

A student was hit while walking across Grand Avenue around 7:15 a.m. Wednesday morning. Witnesses were only able to obtain a brief description of the car: as a silver or white car or maybe SUV with some type of a blue and white round sticker on the back. 

On Thursday, a witness called Port police who was able to identify the company logo from the suspect vehicle, and "contact was made with the driver who cooperated with the investigation," a press release from the department said.

The Greenfield woman was issued traffic citations for the failure to yield the right-of-way to a pedestrian in an uncontrolled intersection and failure to notify police of an accident.

"According to witnesses, other vehicles had stopped for the victim to cross when another vehicle passed on the right and struck the victim," the press release from Port Washington police said. 

No further charges will be sent to the District Attorney's office in connection to the case, the police department told Patch on Thursday.

No further information was available about the status of the student's injuries; initial reports said the car hit the student "in the left leg and running over her foot." 

There is no crossing guard at the intersection where this incident occurred.
