Ozaukee County No Longer State's Healthiest

Research moves this county down behind St. Croix, despite still leading the state in many factors. Do you feel like Ozaukee County is a healthy place? What could be better?

Ozaukee County is no longer the healthiest county in Wisconsin, according to researchers at the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

After two years as the top-ranked county, Ozaukee slipped behind St. Croix in 2012 based on measurements of a variety of health outcomes, behaviors and environmental factors. Results of the study were released Tuesday.

Ozaukee County remains best in the state for mortality, clinical care, health behaviors and social and economic factors. It slipped from 10th to 47th among all 72 Wisconsin counties in the physical environment category after researchers changed the way they measured access to healthy food and fast food.
