Snow-Covered Sidewalks on Hwy. 33 Spark Town, Village Debate
The Village of Saukville said it wouldn't clear the newly constructed walks of snow, and the town of Port denied the responsibility as well — but what did the state say?

During the construction of the Hwy. 33 project, contracts were signed about who was responsible for maintaining what — but since it's completion those lines have blurred.
Snow-covered sidewalks along Hwy. 33 point to a disagreement between the town of Port and the village of Saukville; the town sent a letter to the village saying they were responsible for clearing the snow there, according to an Ozaukee Press article. The village responded that it was the town's problem to deal with.
Now, the Department of Transportation has sent a letter telling the village it's their responsibility and urging the town to cooperate in resolving the issue, the article said. Saukville officials will not take up the matter until its April 17 Village Board and Finance Committee meetings.

This is not the only controversy to hit as a result of the Hwy. 33 construction project. Property owners came to the Port Washington Common Council in fall 2011 with questions about special assessments on the construction project. The costs added up to amounts such as $21,656 owed by Steven Boyea, who owns Stevlin's Hardware at 2440 Hwy. 33.
The Common Council also held several discussions about signage along the road, considering it an eye sore and unneccesary in some cases. The DOT eventually responded, and the council voted remove about 30 signs, with the city eating up the cost of removal.

The Highway 33 project called for expanding the portion of Highway 33 from South Tower Street in Port Washington to the Milwaukee River overflow bridge in Saukville. The road was widened to four lanes with a median, and three roundabouts were added at the intersections of Highway 33 and County LL, Highway 33 and Northwoods Road, and Highway 33 and Market Street. The project finished up fall in 2012.
