SHOREWOOD, WI — The Shorewood Police Commission appointed Heather Wurth as the village's new police chief during its meeting Tuesday, Village Manager Rebecca Ewald announced in a newsletter Thursday.

The Village Board of Trustees has yet to approve the employment agreement, for which consideration is expected during a meeting Monday. Ewald thanked Captain Thomas Liebenthal for his service as interim chief since September in Thursday's newsletter.

Wurth started a career in law enforcement with the Milwaukee Police Department in 1992, her biography on the Village of Shorewood's police chief recruitment website says. She rose to the rank of captain after working various assignments, patrol and supervisory duties.

Three other candidates were up for consideration for the role: Thomas Liebenthal, Rolando Ramos and Kevin Carini.
