No Injuries In Shorewood Apartment Fire On Capitol Drive
Nobody was injured after an oven fire spread in an apartment on 1500 East Capitol Drive in Shorewood, North Shore Fire/Rescue said.

SHOREWOOD, WI — Nobody was injured in a fire at an 8-unit Shorewood apartment building on 1500 East Capitol Drive that broke out around 7 p.m. Wednesday night, according to a news release from North Shore Fire/Rescue.
The caller told 911 the fire started in their apartment's oven, and that it was spreading to the rest of the kitchen. A full assignment was dispatched and when firefighters arrived, smoke and fire was showing from the second-floor window of the building, but residents told them everyone was evacuated, according to the news release.
The fire, which remained contained to the apartment where it originated, was quickly brought under control. There is smoke damage throughout much of the building but the heaviest damage was found in the apartment where the fire started, the hallway outside, and the apartment below, according to the news release.

Both the apartment where the fire started and the apartment below also sustained water damage and both are currently unlivable, the news release said. Other tenants were able to return to their apartments shortly after the fire and NSFR estimates the damage at $58,000.
The fire remains under investigation, but firefighters say it does not appear suspicious. The tenant in the apartment where the fire started likely helped to prevent injury and entrapment to others in the building, the news release says, because they quickly recognized the fire was growing, attempted to extinguish it with a commercial fire extinguisher from the hallway, and notified other tenants of the situation.
