Promising comedic hijinks, Hollywood movie director David Zucker and actor Robert Hays will unveil their new TV spot,  promoting the state as a tourism destination, Monday at a press conference in Madision.

It's been 32 years since the two have worked together on the cult classic "Airplane!" Zucker, a Shorewood native who has directed, produced and written some of the most successful comedy films over the past three decades, including the last two installments of “Scary Movie,” “The Naked Gun” series, “Ruthless People” and "Airplane!," filmed the commercial last summer.

When actor Hays — known most notably for his "Airplane!" character Ted Striker, an ex-fighter pilot with a fear of flying — was asked during that presser to join Zucker in Wisconsin for a new commercial spot, he said, “Surely, you can’t be serious."

In the new spot — which will begin airing in May in Chicago, Minneapolis-St. Paul, eastern Iowa and Milwaukee, according to the Associated Press — Hays plays a bewildered fisherman named Ted on a lake.

The commercial will be the second state tourism ad that Zucker has directed. Last winter, he directed a TV spot at Milwaukee's Riverside Theater. It featured the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra performing a concert and breaking into a snowball fight.
