Shorewood's New Chief Of Police Takes Oath Of Office

SHOREWOOD, WI — Heather Wurth, Shorewood's new chief of police, took her oath of office during Monday's Village Board meeting, according to a news release from the village.

The Shorewood Police Commission selected Chief Wurth to be the village's next top police leader in March. Wurth comes to Shorewood with a long history in policing in the Milwaukee area, with her most recent experience as a captain with the Milwaukee Police Department.

Over 28 years of law enforcement experience, Wurth has had a hand in numerous police functions, including investigations into misconduct, financial management, community policing and more. While public trust in police has been eroded in recent years, Wurth has worked with under-represented groups and has helped to create a plan for recommendations from the Wisconsin Department of Justice, the village's news release said.

"Wurth firmly believes in community engagement by every level of a police department, including the chief," reads the village news release. "The Shorewood Police Commission and community is energized with this recruitment and excited to welcome Chief Wurth to Shorewood."

Monday was Chief Wurth's first day in her new position. Shorewood's previous chief of police was Peter Nimmer, who has since taken on a role in Brown Deer. Thomas Liebenthal served as the interim chief of police before the Commission selected Wurth.
