PHOTOS: New Learning Trail Being Constructed at Weyer Park

After months of nailing down the details, the Born Learning Trail signs at Weyer Park have been planted, marking the beginning of a new activity in Sussex.

After , the United Way’s Born Learning Trail is finally seeing the light of day at .

Located behind and the , Weyer Park is now home to a unique trail aimed toddlers and their parents. The project’s sponsor, Powersports Network, has already planted the signs, and the sidewalk decals will be painted next week.

The Born Learning Trail is an interactive way for parents to play with their toddlers outside while learning through different games and tasks. The trail will have things like hopscotch and the ABCs painted on the pavement. It will also have signs lining the trail with fun activities and directions to help a child learn.

Signs would say things like, “Call out a number and ask your child to stand on it. Take turns.”

Lori Hayes, a Sussex resident and Waukesha County United Way member, says Born Learning Trails are “hot” in this area, with ones already installed or slated for installation in Sussex, New Berlin, Pewaukee, Waukesha, Mukwonago, Oconomowoc.

And the best part is, because Powersports Network is the sponsor, the Village of Sussex didn’t spend a dime on the trail improvements.

The grand opening of the trail is slated for June 21, and considering it’s being constructed at Weyer Park, it will be followed by a in the park.
