Sussex Resident Brings Extensive Retail Knowledge, Experience to Granville BID Board of Directors

Milwaukee – Doug Smith has joined the Granville Business Improvement District’s Board of Directors, bringing his broad knowledge of retail management and operations to its work enhancing the area’s economic prosperity.

Smith, a Sussex resident, is Store Manager of Walgreens, 8488 W. Brown Deer Road. He has overseen the Walgreens location in the Granville BID for a year, and worked 10 years total with Walgreens in different management roles.

Smith has spent his entire career with major-market retailers, gaining valuable insight into the needs of successful retailers, and about the type of business climate where they survive and thrive. His background includes working with employees of all ages and experience levels.

Prior to joining Walgreens, he worked 10 years at the Target distribution center in Oconomowoc. His responsibilities covered a wide range of operations, from warehouse processes, to maintenance, to employee training. He twice worked in other states for extended periods to open and improve operations at Target distribution centers.

“Doug brings a unique perspective and valuable knowledge that will strengthen our board’s policies and decision-making,” said Mark Krause, Chair of the Granville BID Board of Directors. “Reinforcing and expanding retail within the BID’s borders is a key focus of our efforts. We look forward to his ideas about how we can do so more efficiently and effectively.”

Smith will serve a three-year term on the board.

Created in February 2013 to spur economic development and revitalization of Milwaukee’s far northwest side, the Granville Business Improvement District contains more than 300 businesses covering a broad swath of industrial, service and retail market segments. The district hosts thousands of employees every work day, and is home to the most concentrated base of industrial employment in Wisconsin.
