Spring weight restrictions on Village roads begin Monday, March 14, 2022. Vehicles over 6-ton are not allowed on Village roads during this time period in an effort to protect our infrastructure. No deliveries are permitted during this time, except for emergencies. All emergency deliveries must be approved by the Village Engineer, Judith Neu (262) 246-5200. An announcement will be posted when the restrictions are lifted.

Each year during the spring thaw (typically in March), the Village of Sussex imposes vehicle weight restrictions to protect the investment that has been made in our roadways. When roads that have been frozen all winter begin to thaw from the surface downward, melting snow and ice saturate the softened ground. During the spring thaw, the roadbed softened by trapped moisture beneath the pavement makes it more susceptible to damage. This also contributes to pothole problems. The exact dates are set each year by the Village Engineer and vary depending on annual temperature variations. Exceptions to these restrictions are granted on a very limited basis, and must be approved by the Village Engineer.
