2022 Blanket Drive

Help the Sussex Fire Department blanket our local community through the 2022 Blanket Drive, now through February 18. There are three ways you can help:

  • New blankets can be dropped off at the Sussex Public Safety Building between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday-Friday.
  • Buy a blanket(s) online and send to the Milwaukee Area Labor Council (633 South Hawley Road, Suite 110, Milwaukee, WI 53214).
  • Make a monetary contribution with a check to the "Labor Community @ Work" and note "blanket drive" in the memo line. Labor Community @ Work is a 501c3 agency.

The 2022 Blanket Drive is a joint effort of the Sussex Fire Department, United Way Greater Milwaukee & Waukesha County, and AFL-CIO Community Services. If you have questions, call the Sussex Public Safety office at (262) 246-5237.

The Village is hiring for several positions. Learn more about all open positions and apply on our website.

  • Rental Attendant (part time): Rental Attendants are tasked with providing on-site support and excellent customer service to renters at the Civic Center and The Grove, primarily on the weekends. The position assists renters with equipment needs, set-up questions, locating necessary items/supplies and some light cleaning activities. When not directly assisting a renter, the Rental Attendants may be assigned other work, such as cleaning. This position offers an extremely flexible schedule for those looking to make some extra money, but aren't able to commit to a set schedule or specific number of hours weekly. The starting wage is $15/hour.
  • Election Inspector (Poll Worker) (part time): Election Inspectors work either a morning shift, afternoon shift or all day. Those working a morning shift or all day typically start at 6:30 a.m. Those working an afternoon shift or all day work until all reports are completed and voting numbers are reconciled, approximately 9:30 p.m. Elections with large voter turnout may require more time to sort ballots and process reports at end of day. To be an Election Inspector in Sussex, a person must be a US Citizen, resident of Waukesha County, at least 16 years of age, not currently serving a sentence including incarceration, parole, probation or extended supervision for a felony conviction; or not be otherwise disqualified from voting and be able to read and write fluently in the English language.
  • Firefighter/Paramedic (part time): These positions are part-time paid on premise. Shifts are 12 hours (06:00-18:00 and 18:00-06:00) and there is a weekend/holiday commitment. Part-time positions are limited to two (2) 12-hour shifts per week (24 hours total). Minimum qualifications for the position are: 18 years of age, high school diploma or GED, possession of a valid driver's license with a good driving record, a current State of Wisconsin EMT or Paramedic license, State of Wisconsin Firefighter I, and State of Wisconsin Driver/Operator-Pumper. The pay rate starts at $17.00 per hour for Firefighter/Paramedic, $14.98 per hour for Firefighter/EMT-A, and $14.29 per hour for Firefighter/EMT-B. An additional $0.25 per hour is paid on top of this base salary for each of the following certifications: Driver/Operator - Pumper, Driver/Operator - Aerial, Firefighter II, Emergency Services Instructor, and Fire Inspector.
  • Wastewater Operator: Wastewater utility work includes plant maintenance, lab work, lift station maintenance, collection system maintenance, response to sewer backups and more. Wastewater Operators are part of the Public Works Department, which is responsible for a wide variety of tasks, including street maintenance, stormwater utility, water utility, and special projects. All Public Works Employees are expected to assist in all the identified areas; however, the majority of time for this position will be spent working for the wastewater utility. Experience in wastewater plant operations, lab work, and equipment maintenance is required. Possession of a valid Wisconsin β€œAdvanced” wastewater operator certification in subclasses: A1, B, C, P, D, SS, and L is preferred. The successful candidate must possess a valid Wisconsin Driver’s License as well as a Class A CDL and tanker endorsement or be able to obtain within 6 months of hire. Once training is complete, the candidate will join the 9 week on call rotation. This will consist of responding to after hour emergencies and weekend duties. This candidate must also be available from December 1st to March 1st for snow plowing. The Village offers a competitive wage range of $23.63–$32.89, DOQ. Summer 2022 Seasonal Positions: We are looking for energetic and enthusiastic staff to lead exciting activities for our campers ages 6-12 and to help keep our parks beautiful! These are seasonal positions working May-August.

  • Day Camp Coordinator: The Day Camp Coordinator is responsible for the operation of the Summer Day Camp program. Responsibilities include planning and overseeing training and scheduling of Day Camp counselors, development and implementation of camp curriculum and communication with participants and families in order to create an exceptional experience for every camper. Full time work begins early May and ends in late August, with 5-10 hours per month from September to April. Applicants must be 21 or older. The Coordinator will work Monday-Friday between the hours of 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Wage: $16/hour, DOQ.
  • Assistant Day Camp Coordinator: The Assistant Coordinator will assist with the operation of the Summer Day Camp program. Responsibilities include planning and overseeing training of Day Camp counselors, development and implementation of camp curriculum and communication with participants and families in order to create an exceptional experience for every camper. Work begins mid-May and ends in late August. Applicants must be 21 or older. The Assistant Coordinator will work Monday-Friday between the hours of 7 a.m.–5:30 p.m. Wage: $14/hour
  • Day Camp Counselor: Counselors will assist the Day Camp Coordinator with the planning, organization and implementation of weekly camp activities to create a high quality experience for every camper. Work begins in early June and ends in late August, depending on seasonal employee availability. Applicants must be 18 or older. Hours: Counselors are needed Monday-Friday 7:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. Each Counselor will work on a rotational basis each week to cover the hours needed for Day Camp. Individual work schedules (days/times) will be distributed weekly. Wage: $11/hour.
  • Parks Maintenance Technician: Work 32-40 hours per week for the summer of 2022. Duties include, but are not limited to, mowing, trimming, weeding, cleaning park restrooms, athletic field prep, painting, mulching, garbage removal, event set-up/take-down, special event staffing (particularly for the 4th of July) and assistance with a variety of park projects. Weekend work will be required on a rotating basis. The starting wage is $12 per hour. Work will be available May through August, but specific start and end dates are flexible and dependent on the employees availability. A valid driver’s license is required. High school students with valid work permit will be considered.
  • Grass Cutter: Work 30-35 hours per week from April through October. Duties include, but are not limited to, operating an 11-foot mower, operating a zero-turn mower, and light maintenance on these mowers. Typical hours are 7:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Starting wage is $13 per hour. A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Pint-sized Sports Supervisor: The Pint-Sized Sports Supervisor will work with our Pint-Sized Soccer, T-Ball and Coach Pitch Baseball and responsibilities include working with/organizing parent volunteer coaches, setting up activity fields, maintaining & sorting equipment and general supervision of the evening’s activities. Work begins in early June and ends mid-August. Applicants must be 18 or older. Instructors are needed Tuesdays/Wednesday/Thursdays 4:30-8 p.m. Hours may vary slightly depending on schedule of classes. Wage: $9.50/hour, DOQ.
  • Tennis Instructor: Assist the Tennis Coordinator with the planning, organization and implementation of weekly tennis activities to create a high-quality experience for every player. Work begins in early June and ends in late August. Tennis knowledge and experience required. Applicants must be 16 or older. Hours: Instructors are needed Tuesdays/Thursdays 4:45 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. Hours may vary slightly depending on schedule of classes. Wage: $10/hour, DOQ.
  • Tennis Coordinator: The Tennis Coordinator will plan, organize and implement of weekly tennis activities to create a high-quality experience for every player. Work begins in early June and ends in late August. Tennis knowledge and experience required. Applicants must be 18 or older. Instructors are needed Tuesdays/Thursdays 4:30–7:45 p.m. Hours may vary slightly depending on schedule of classes. Wage: $12/hour, DOQ.

Habitat for Humanity Launches New Home Preservation Program

Habitat for Humanity of Waukesha County has a NEW Home Preservation program to assist low to moderate-income homeowners repair their existing homes. The program promotes dignity and independence for homeowners by addressing critical health and safety needs within their homes. Repair work includes roofing, accessibility upgrades, energy efficiency, code violations, plumbing, siding, electrical, and minor repairs to preserve home exteriors and revitalize neighborhoods. Military Veterans are strongly encouraged to apply. Up to 80% of the cost can be forgiven. Seed dollars to launch this program have been provided by Generac Power Systems, City of Waukesha TIF Affordable Housing Extension, Community Development Block Grant, and private philanthropic support.
